The Art of Being Rebekkah by Karoline Barrett

Welcome, Karoline, and thank you for being here. I’m looking forward to learning more about your writing career and the publication of your new book, The Art of Being Rebekkah.

First, tell us a little about yourself. Hi Kay. Thanks for having me on your blog! I started writing about ten years ago. I began with short stories and finished my first novel a little over a year ago. My husband and I live in Connecticut and we like going to museums, the beach, and baseball games. I have two sons and one grandson.

When did you first know you wanted to write? I’ve always wanted to write, but it wasn’t until I took the Long Ridge Writers Group’s “Breaking into Print” and “Novel Writing Course” that I became serious about it.

Do you work with an outline, or just write? Definitely outline! I have to know where my stories are going; especially a novel.

How did you choose the genre or genres you write in? I love reading romance, women’s fiction, and cozy mysteries, so I naturally gravitated to those genres for my writing.

Who are a couple of your favorite authors, and why? Ann B. Ross because her characters are funny and charming and Naomi Ragen, because her characters are compelling and her books draw you right in.

Tell us little bit about your book The Art of Being Rebekkah. When Rebekkah Gelles suspects her husband , Avram of not only lying to her, but also contriving not to have the children she so desperately wants and embezzling money from his business, she wants out of their marriage.

Her life gets complicated when she falls in love with detective Nick Rossi. Convinced Nick’s wrong for her–he’s not Jewish for one thing–she walks away after they share a night of passion. Nick warns her even though he loves her, he won’t beg. Their budding relationship seems to have ended.

When Rebekkah finds herself staring at a positive pregnancy test, she wavers between joy and sadness. Motherhood wasn’t supposed to happen this way.

Is any of it based on real life or is it all purely imagination? My imagination! I drew from life experiences, but the book is totally a piece of fiction.

What was your reaction on the day The Art of Being Rebekkah was published? I was very excited! It was hard to believe that my book was actually out there.

What project are you working on now? I’m working on the second book in my new cozy mystery series.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers? Prersevere and don’t give up! Connect with other writers and find a good editor before you query agents, or look for a publisher.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?  Where can they follow you? I appreciate everyone who buys my book. I love to hear from readers and other writers! They can find my website here and they can email me at karoline@karolinebarrett.com.

Thank you, Karoline, and good luck with your new book and with your cozy mystery series.
